Xiamen Airlines selects KLM Engineering & Maintenance as MRO provider for 787 fleet

China's Xiamen Airlines has selected Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance as component MRO provider for its Boeing 787 fleet.

The SkyTeam carrier has signed a long-term support contract covering equipment repair and overhaul plus access to a spare-parts pool.

Xiamen has ordered six General Electric GEnx-powered 787-8s, two of which have been delivered, Flightglobal's Ascend Fleets database shows.

Air France-KLM has opted to equip its on-order 787 fleet with the same engine family.

Nearly a year ago, Air France-KLM's MRO division opened a repair shop for 737 and Airbus A320 avionics in Shanghai. The group is also planning to establish a shop for mechanical equipment in China, but the exact capabilities and timeline for that facility have not yet been disclosed.

The MRO provider says that its "bespoke" component support services allow 787 operators to launch the aircraft with "limited investment".
